Bringing Star Wars Down To Earth - You have to hand it to science, there seems to be no end to the ever bigger and more destructive weapons, followed by equally grandiose countermeasures. Now That's A Scorcher! - An amazing image of The Surface Of Venus captured by the Magellan Probe using radar to see through the thick cloud cover. Talk about a "greenhouse effect" - the surface temperature runs about 700K (or ~800F for those of us who don't think in terms of Kelvin), which is hot enough to melt lead.
